The signal is measured to be six times brighter than the combined emission of all known radio sources in the universe. For now, the origin of the signal remains a mystery. We really don’t know what it is,said team member Michael Seiffert of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.

"The Cardboard Robot Rumble began at Mission Dolores Park. After scoping out territory within the Mission, the two cardboard robot armies (Valencia v. Mission) clashed on Clarion Alley. The humans eventually rose up against the robot overlords and the day was saved."

"One day, Matt and I got the idea of making robots, just for fun. We soon realised that actual robots require money, time, effort, electronics and knowledge of a robot making nature. Since we had little to none of those things, we went for the next best thing: Costumes made of cardboard, spray paint and an alarming number of metal brads. We finished after about four months of on and off work. The result was a marvel of cardboard. Matt's mother even was kind enough to make us underclothes out of spandex. All in all, it was wonderful fun, and I'm glad they turned out so nice. ... I [brian] was the silver robot, and Matt was the red robot."

Schauer robot via Lockwasher on Flickr
"Wide-eyed and up for a challenge nothing gets past Schauer. Gloriously displaying his radar headgear (lawn sprinkler) and dual window cranks (arms) this bot is master of all he surveys. A vintage motor analyzer case, auto valve bodies, electric drill parts, springs and a big gold nose keep him on top of his game."
